The Universidad de Burgos will be represented by the Department of Biotechnology and Food Sciences, and specifically by the Laboratory of Food Technology. The Foodechnology group has a long experience in working with the industrial sector and especially with food producing SMEs. This group has participated in the EU 6th Framework Programme within the project PathogenCombat very related to the topic of the present project. The actual group consist on about three senior scientists, two associated senior scientists and 5 PhD students working with different foodborne pathogens such as Campylobacter jejuni, Listeria monocytogenes, E. coli STEC, and also in spoilage microorganisms such as Lactic Acid. Bacteria in dififenr types of food products. The laboratory of Food Technology has good facilities to develop all tasks assigned in the project. The group will work together and in the facilities of the Agrarian Technological Institute of Castilla and Leon (ITACyL) in Valladolid.

Contact Person: David Rodriguez- Lázaro

David Rodriguez-Lázaro is a Doctor in Veterinary Medicine (DVM), specialised in Food Science (BSc and MSc) and Molecular Microbiology (PhD). He is a senior scientist at ITACyL and an Assistant Professor of Microbiology at the University of Burgos. DRL has performed research stays in the Danish Institute for Food and Veterinary Research (Denmark), University of Prague (Czech Republic), the Food and Environmental Research Agency (UK), and the University of Bristol (UK). He was a Leverhulme visiting Professor in the Institute of Advanced Sciences in the University of Bristol during the years 2004 and 2005 and Marie Curie Research Fellow in the Faculty of Medical and Veterinary Sciences in the University of Bristol (UK) until 2.007.

DRL has participated in a number of coordinated EU-funded projects such as PROMISE, BASELINE, VITAL, FOOD-PCR, SACROHN, and MONI-QA, having established active links with the leading European research groups working in Food Safety
